Semrush vs Ahrefs: Which One Should a B2B SaaS Team Buy in 2026?

Semrush and Ahrefs compared for B2B SaaS teams: published prices checked on 30 October 2026, AI visibility tracking in each, where each tool is stronger, and which to buy for your team.

Short answer: Choose Semrush if one tool has to cover SEO, AI visibility and paid search research for a small marketing team. Its Starter plan, at $199 a month, includes 50 AI prompts tracked daily. Choose Ahrefs if SEO and link research are the main job and you want a lower starting price: Lite is $129 a month, and you add Brand Radar when you need to track AI answers. Both now sell AI visibility tracking, and both are priced very differently from a year ago, so check the current plans before you buy.

A note on the search results. When we checked Google for “semrush vs ahrefs” in October 2026, the top five were a page from a competing SEO tool, two affiliate review sites, a three-year-old Reddit thread and a tech blog. The prices in them did not agree with each other or with the vendors: one still listed Semrush’s old Pro, Guru and Business plans, and none explained the AI visibility features each tool now sells. We pay for neither tool through an affiliate deal. Every price below comes from Semrush’s pricing page and Ahrefs’ pricing page, both checked on 30 October 2026.

How much does Semrush cost compared with Ahrefs?

Semrush now sells plans named SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, which replace the Pro, Guru and Business plans many reviews still list. Its pricing page on 30 October 2026 lists four “SEO + AI Search” plans:

  • SEO: $139 a month, or $117.33 a month billed annually. 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily.
  • Starter: $199 a month, or $165.17 billed annually. 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, 50 AI prompts tracked daily for 1 domain.
  • Pro+: $299 a month, or $248.17 billed annually. 15 websites, 1,500 keywords tracked daily, 100 AI prompts tracked daily, historical data and content optimization.
  • Advanced: custom price, on request. 40+ websites, 5,000+ keywords tracked daily, unlimited AI prompts, API access and team users.

Additional users start at $45 a month. The page also sells a Lead Generation add-on at $90 a month. It does not say how many users each plan includes, so ask before you budget for a team.

Ahrefs lists five paid plans on its pricing page on the same date, billed monthly, and says paying annually saves up to 17%:

  • Starter: $29 a month, for basic keyword and competitor research.
  • Lite: $129 a month. 5 projects (unlimited verified), 750 tracked keywords, 150 AI prompt checks. Up to 2 extra users at $40 a month each.
  • Standard: $249 a month. 20 projects, 2,000 tracked keywords, 300 AI prompt checks. Up to 5 extra users at $60 a month each.
  • Advanced: $449 a month. 50 projects, 5,000 tracked keywords, 600 AI prompt checks. Up to 10 extra users at $80 a month each.
  • Enterprise: $1,499 a month, annual commitment required.

Brand Radar AI, Ahrefs’ full AI visibility index, is an add-on from $199 a month. Custom prompt packages start at $50 a month for 2,500 checks.

For a three-person B2B marketing team billed monthly, using only the published figures:

Ahrefs is cheaper to start. Semrush includes more AI prompt tracking in the base price. If you would buy Brand Radar AI for a year, add $2,388 to the Ahrefs columns.

Which tool is better for AI visibility?

Both now track how your brand shows up in AI answers, which matters for B2B: Forrester reported in January 2026 that 94% of business buyers use AI in their buying process.

Semrush builds AI visibility into its plans. Its AI toolkit help page describes a visibility score, competitor research, prompt research, brand performance with share of voice and sentiment, daily prompt tracking, and an audit for issues that stop AI crawlers. The page names ChatGPT and Google AI Mode as examples of the platforms it checks.

Ahrefs sells Brand Radar, which tracks brand mentions, citations, sentiment and share of voice across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude. It works two ways: custom prompts you define, checked daily, and an index of prompts you can query for any brand. Its plans include a small monthly allowance of prompt checks, and the full index is the add-on.

For a B2B SaaS team, the deciding question is how many prompts you need to track. Twenty buyer questions (“best procurement software for mid-market,” “[your product] alternatives”) fit in either tool’s entry allowance. If you want to benchmark your whole category against competitors, Ahrefs’ index or Semrush’s Pro+ and Advanced quotas are the levels to compare. Either way, AI visibility tools sample answers; they do not show you every answer buyers saw. Our GEO vs SEO comparison covers how to measure both.

Where is each tool stronger for B2B SaaS SEO?

Semrush is stronger as one tool for several channels. Its homepage lists toolkits for SEO, AI visibility, traffic and market research, content, local, advertising, AI PR and social. A B2B team that runs Google Ads and SEO together can research paid and organic keywords and competitors’ ads in the same place. Our guide to viewing competitor ads shows how Semrush’s advertising research fits that job.

Ahrefs is stronger when SEO is the job. Its product list is built around Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker and Content Explorer, with GSC Insights for your Search Console data and its own web analytics. Teams that spend most of their time on competitor pages, content gaps and links tend to prefer it.

Both cover the basics. Keyword research, competitor analysis, rank tracking, site audits and backlink analysis are in both. Neither vendor publishes an independent accuracy test, and the data-size claims in comparison articles come from the vendors themselves. If accuracy decides it, run your own test: pick 30 keywords you already rank for, compare each tool’s position and volume estimates with your Google Search Console data for the same month, and see which is closer for your site.

Which should a B2B SaaS team choose?

Choose Semrush if:

  • One or two marketers cover SEO, paid search and content, and you want one subscription.
  • You want daily AI prompt tracking without buying an add-on.
  • You run Google Ads and want competitor ad research in the same tool.

Choose Ahrefs if:

  • SEO is a dedicated job on your team, and keywords, competitor pages and links are most of the work.
  • You want the lowest entry price, starting with Lite at $129 a month.
  • You want AI visibility across more named platforms, and will pay for Brand Radar AI when you need the full index.

Choose neither yet if you publish fewer than four pages a month. Google Search Console, a keyword list and a free plan cover a young site. Spend the budget on pages first.

Whichever you choose, the tool is a means to pipeline. Our guide to SEO for lead generation covers which pages turn searches into leads and how to measure them in your CRM.

Where Growigami fits

We do not resell either tool. Our AI search and SEO service writes the pages your buyers and their AI assistants look for, such as comparisons, integrations and use cases, each approved by you. Each month we ask the assistants your buyers use the questions they ask and show you which answers name you and which name a competitor. If your team already pays for Semrush or Ahrefs, we work in your account.

Frequently asked

Is Semrush or Ahrefs better?

Neither is better for every team. Semrush covers more ground in one subscription: SEO, AI visibility, content, local, social and advertising research. Ahrefs is more focused on SEO, with a lower-priced entry plan and AI visibility sold as the Brand Radar add-on. A marketing team that wants one tool for several channels usually fits Semrush; an SEO-led team that spends its time on keywords, competitors and links usually fits Ahrefs.

How much do Semrush and Ahrefs cost?

From their pricing pages on 30 October 2026: Semrush lists SEO at $139, Starter at $199 and Pro+ at $299 a month billed monthly ($117.33, $165.17 and $248.17 a month billed annually), with Advanced on request. Ahrefs lists Starter at $29, Lite at $129, Standard at $249, Advanced at $449 and Enterprise at $1,499 a month, and says paying annually saves up to 17%.

Is Ahrefs still relevant?

Yes. Ahrefs has added AI search features on top of its SEO tools: Brand Radar tracks how brands appear in AI answers across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude, and its Lite, Standard and Advanced plans include a monthly allowance of AI prompt checks. For teams whose main job is SEO and link research, it remains one of the two default choices.

Is Semrush a keyword research tool?

Keyword research is one part of it. Semrush's plans include keyword research, competitor analysis, position tracking and site audits, and its pricing page now groups SEO and AI search in the same plans, with daily AI prompt tracking from the Starter plan up. It also sells toolkits for content, local SEO, social media and advertising.

Can Semrush be trusted?

As a source of estimates, yes, with the usual limits. Every third-party SEO tool estimates traffic and search volume from its own data, so the numbers will not match your Google Search Console. Use Semrush or Ahrefs to compare sites and spot opportunities, and use Search Console and your CRM for the numbers you report.

Do you need both Semrush and Ahrefs?

Most B2B SaaS teams do not. The overlap is large: keyword research, competitor research, site audits, rank tracking and backlinks are in both. Pick one, use it for a quarter, and add a second tool only for a specific gap you can name, such as a deeper backlink check before a link campaign.
