of B2B software buyers start research with an AI chatbot more often than with Google (G2, March 2026)
Why it matters
Chatbot answers change which vendor buyers pick
In G2's survey of 1,076 B2B software buyers, 69% chose a different vendor than they first planned because of what a chatbot told them. A third bought from a vendor they had never heard of. When the answer names a rival, the shortlist can be set before your sales team hears of the deal.

A generative engine optimization agency works to get your company named in the answers ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews give buyers. The work is mostly pages: direct answers to the questions your buyers ask, with facts a model can quote. Growigami writes them from your expert’s calls, 200 a month, for the buyer questions your site has yet to answer.
Why does the chatbot’s answer decide the shortlist?
Because buyers act on it. G2 surveyed 1,076 B2B software buyers in March 2026 for its report The Answer Economy. 51% now start their software research with an AI chatbot more often than with Google. 69% chose a different vendor than they first planned because of a chatbot’s guidance.
G2’s release on the survey shows what buyers ask for. Comparing vendors’ strengths and weaknesses was the top use of chatbots in software research, at 41%, ahead of basic product research. ChatGPT was the most used chatbot for B2B software research, at 63%.
So the pages that count are the ones that settle a comparison: your product against a named rival, for a stated company size and use. If your site has no page that answers the question, the assistant builds its answer from other people’s pages. Our glossary entries on generative engine optimization and answer engine optimization define the two terms and where they overlap.

A person on your team approves each batch
Positions are from Ahrefs for US searches on 4 November 2026, where position 1 was Google’s AI Overview. Percepture’s prices come from its GEO pricing page, a separate page from the one that ranks. Go Fish Digital, whose list of GEO agencies ranked 7th, says monthly retainers can range from several thousand dollars for a focused program to $20,000 or more for enterprise work.
The two offers buy different things. Percepture’s entry package, at $3,500 a month, lists “AI-ready content creation support” at 2 a month, next to a monthly strategy call and optimization of existing pages. Our search process publishes 200 pages a month for $1,999, or $3,498 a month with a monthly CRO review. Percepture’s page does not say what one item contains, so ask each firm for a sample before you compare counts.
What does the work include each month?
The search process runs the same loop every month:
Ask the assistants. We put your buyers’ questions to ChatGPT and Perplexity and record which vendors each answer names.
Map the gaps. We list the comparisons, integration pages, use cases and plain definitions those answers draw on, and mark the ones your site lacks.
Interview your expert. A short call with the person who knows the product best. AI agents then write the pages from what they said.
Check every figure. Each number is traced to its source before anyone on your team reads the draft.
Approve the batch. A person on your team reads each batch of pages and approves it before any page goes live.
Ask again. The same questions go back to the assistants, so you see which answers moved.

Every page is also built to rank on Google, because Google’s AI Overviews sit on top of Google Search. Our GEO vs SEO comparison covers what changes between the two disciplines. The AI search and SEO service page lists what each size of the process includes.
Mentions on other sites come from a separate process, PR and awards, which writes your releases and award entries and pitches reporters. Like every process, it starts at $1,999 a month, and you approve each piece before it goes out.
A CRO review is optional: $1,499 a month for a monthly review, or $2,999 a month for weekly ones. Your CRO goes over the numbers with you, the pipeline these pages bring in included, and tunes the process on what they show. Without the review, your team steers and we keep the process running.
You can build your own quote for the process and the review on the offerings page. The minimum is three months, then 30 days' notice.
What does Google say about GEO and page volume?
Google’s guide to its generative AI features, last updated 10 July 2026, names AEO and GEO directly. Optimizing for generative AI search is “still SEO” from Google Search’s perspective, the guide says, because it is optimizing for the search experience. AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on the same ranking and quality systems as the rest of Search, and a page must be indexed and able to show with a snippet before they can use it.
The guide is blunt about volume. Creating separate content for every variation of how people search, mainly to manipulate rankings or AI answers, violates Google’s scaled content abuse policy. A high page count does not make a site higher quality, and Google’s AI systems match synonyms, so a site needs no page for each phrasing. Google Search also ignores llms.txt files, so adding one neither helps nor hurts a site there.
Our search process publishes 200 pages a month on its smaller size, so that warning is the bar it has to clear. Each page starts from a question your buyers ask and from what your expert said on a short call. The agents keep the list of pages already live, so each new page covers a question the site has yet to answer. Every figure is checked against its source, and a person on your team approves each batch before it goes live.
The guide covers Google Search, its AI Overviews and AI Mode included. For ChatGPT and Perplexity, the monthly answer check puts your buyers’ questions to each assistant and records which vendors it names.
Two clients grew search traffic 10x and 100x
We have built more than 3,600 indexed pages for clients. SquareDash and CapOut are measured in Google search, where Ahrefs gives an outside estimate of visits:
SquareDash: SquareDash, which gives homeowners a roof price from a satellite scan, relaunched in April 2026 with 1,403 pages built around how homeowners search. Within two weeks its pages on roof overlay and replacement cost reached Google’s first page, and estimated search visits grew more than 100x in five months.
CapOut: CapOut turns insurance estimate PDFs into Xactimate files for roofing contractors. Its search traffic grew 10x after the new pages went live. Revenue grew nearly 5x by CEO Matt Fruge’s own count; we also ran CapOut’s outbound and website, so that figure is not search alone.
Neither figure counts AI citations. For those, the monthly answer check records, for each question, which answers name you and which name a competitor.
How do you choose a generative engine optimization agency?
Ask every firm on your shortlist the same questions, and compare the answers in writing:
What does it cost each month, and for how long? A published price and notice period let you compare firms before the first call.
How many pages a month, and what is on each one? Ask for an example page, since “content piece” and “page” mean different things from firm to firm.
Who checks each page before it publishes? An assistant can repeat what a page says about your product, so someone who knows the product should read it first.
How will you show that answers name us? Look for the same questions asked every month, across the assistants your buyers use, with competitors named in the results.
What do you promise? Chatbot answers shift with the wording of the question and with model updates. Treat a guaranteed citation as a warning sign, and hold the firm to what it ships each month and how it reports.
Who answers for pipeline? A report on mentions measures visibility. Ask who reviews the opportunities in your CRM, and how often.
When does another GEO setup fit better than ours?
Our search process suits a company with many buyer questions still unanswered and a person on its team who can read each batch. Three other setups suit some buyers better:
An in-house writer. If your buyers ask a few dozen distinct questions, one writer on staff can answer each of them in depth. Our smaller size is 200 pages a month, with a minimum of three months. A team that wants four long articles a month would pay for volume it has no use for.
A larger GEO retainer. A company selling in several countries, or one that wants engineering and digital PR from the same firm, is buying custom scope. Go Fish Digital names both as factors in GEO pricing and says enterprise retainers can reach $20,000 or more a month. Each size of our process has one posted price.
A link and digital PR program, when trade press and forum threads carry the answers in your category. Google’s guide says its AI features show what is said about products across the web, forum discussions included. Our PR and awards process writes 1 press release and 2 award entries a month, or 2 and 4 on the larger size. Percepture sells “AI Link & Mention Building” at $1,000 to $1,600 a month on top of its GEO packages, and digital PR from $4,500 a month (pricing page read 4 November 2026).
Talk to sales. Give us read access to your CRM, and within a week we show you the first process we would build and what it would produce.
Questions
Common questions about GEO agencies
What does a generative engine optimization agency do?
It works to get your company named in the answers AI tools give buyers, in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI Overviews. Most of the work is pages that answer the questions your buyers ask, with facts a model can quote. The rest is technical access to your site, mentions on other sites and a monthly check of which answers name you.
How much does a GEO agency cost?
On the pages Google ranked for this search on 4 November 2026, Percepture's GEO packages start at $3,500 a month, and Go Fish Digital says enterprise retainers can reach $20,000 or more. At Growigami the search process is $1,999 a month for 200 pages. A process costs $500 more in its first month while we build it, and your first build is on us this month. An optional CRO review adds $1,499 a month, or $2,999 for weekly reviews. The minimum is three months, then 30 days' notice.
How do you measure GEO results?
We put the same buyer questions to the assistants your buyers use every month and show you which answers name you and which name a competitor. Answers vary from one run to the next, so the trend across months counts for more than any single reply. With the optional CRO review, the pipeline these pages bring in is also reviewed in your CRM.
Can a GEO agency guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend us?
No. Chatbot answers change with the wording of the question, the platform and each model update, so a guaranteed citation has nothing behind it. We commit to the work and its record. That means 200 pages a month with each batch approved by your team, plus a monthly log of which answers name you.
How long does generative engine optimization take?
Within a week of CRM access we show you the first process we would build, and it is usually running in about three weeks. Citations, if they come, take longer: Google has to index a new page before its AI features can use it, and the other assistants have to find it. On Google, SquareDash's estimated search visits grew more than 100x in the five months after its rebuilt site went live; that is search traffic, not AI citations.
Do we need a GEO agency or an SEO agency?
Usually one team for both, because the same pages serve Google and the AI answers. Google's guide to its AI features, last updated 10 July 2026, says that from Google Search's side, optimizing for generative AI search is still SEO. ChatGPT and Perplexity sit outside that guide. Our search process builds every page to rank on Google and puts your buyers' questions to both assistants each month.
