Why it matters
The phrase "fractional CMO cost" draws about 200 US searches a month, by Ahrefs' count. The answer has two parts: the leader's fee and the cost of the work. Growigami publishes both, with each process from $1,999 a month and the review with your fractional CMO from $1,499.
What you get
Each process starts at $1,999 a month. Where a process has a larger size, it costs $1,499 more.
AI agents research accounts and draft the emails, pages, posts and ads each week. Ad spend is paid at cost.
A review with your fractional CMO is optional: $1,499 a month for monthly sessions or $2,999 for weekly.
Each process costs $500 more in its first month while we build it, and your first build is on us this month.
The minimum is three months. After that, you can leave with 30 days' notice.

A fractional CMO costs $5,000 to $15,000 a month on retainer in GrowTal’s and Activated Scale’s ranges, and Fractionus puts US retainers at $8,000 to $22,000. That fee buys leadership hours, and 10Louder says the writing, design, paid media and SEO almost always cost extra. Growigami prices the work, from $1,999 a month per process.
On 5 November 2026 we read eight pages from seven firms in Google’s US results for this search, in Ahrefs’ snapshot of 29 September. Every one gives a figure, and the table sets them side by side.

Five firms give a monthly range, and all five cover $8,000 to $15,000 a month; three start at $5,000. Fractionus puts the spread down to seniority, scope and engagement structure, and places most experienced fractional CMOs at $12,000 to $15,000 for two to three days a week.
Of the eight pages, only Geisheker’s states the firm’s own fee. Go Fractional gives the range its own CMOs charge, and the other five firms give market ranges.
Two firms print different figures on other pages. Go Fractional’s outsourced CMO guide, also in these results, puts retainers at $10,000 to $20,000 a month, and its hire page starts them at $5,000 a month, about 29 hours at a $174 average hourly rate. An older GrowTal article, from August 2025, gives $200 to $400 an hour.
10Louder breaks its 2026 rates down by revenue, for a senior B2B fractional CMO with 15 or more years of experience:
Some take it. 10Louder lists the four pricing models by share: a monthly retainer in about 70% of engagements, hourly in about 15%, project fees in about 10% and equity with reduced cash in about 5%. Its typical equity deal is $5,000 a month in cash plus 0.25% to 1.5% of the company, vesting over 24 months, and it names startups before a Series A as the best fit.
For a tight budget, 10Louder prefers deferred cash and keeps equity for relationships meant to last three years or more. Growigami’s prices are monthly fees, with no equity line.
The retainer pays for leadership. 10Louder’s list of what is usually included opens with weekly leadership meetings and management of your marketing team, and also covers board-style reporting and hiring guidance. Its list of what almost always costs extra starts with “Execution work (writing, design, paid media, SEO).”
Tools add $500 to $5,000 a month in 10Louder’s estimate. Agencies bill on top. The Geisheker Group’s own pricing page says “your team and agencies handle hands-on execution”, and its comparison puts a marketing agency at $8K to $25K a month.
The all-in monthly cost, 10Louder says, “is usually 1.5x to 3x the retainer once execution capacity and tools are factored in.”
Its example: a $10,000 fractional CMO commonly sits inside $20,000 to $30,000 a month of marketing cost.
Your fractional CMO builds each process with your team, and AI agents run it every week. You can price every line below on our price list before you talk to anyone.
The minimum is three months, and after that you can leave with 30 days' notice. Here is what each common setup costs over that minimum. Your first build is on us this month.
| Setup | First month | Each month after | Three-month minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| One process, no review | $1,999 | $1,999 | $5,997 |
| One process, monthly review | $3,498 | $3,498 | $10,494 |
| One process, weekly review | $4,998 | $4,998 | $14,994 |
| Two processes, monthly review | $5,997 | $5,497 | $16,991 |
For comparison, 10Louder’s smallest band, $5,000 to $8,000 a month with a 6-month minimum, comes to $30,000 to $48,000 before any of the work is paid for. Our price list shows every process and size.
One process, run every week. Each of these four starts at $1,999 a month:
Within a week of read access to your CRM, we show you the first process we would build and what it would produce. It is usually running in about three weeks.
CapOut’s CEO, Matt Fruge, put the cost this way (CapOut story):
“For the same price that you would pay one and a half to two people, we get access to the whole gamut of everything you provide.” Matt Fruge, CEO, CapOut
10Louder lists red flags in pricing proposals. A retainer with no hours stated, a CMO with more than four active clients and a proposal with no 30, 60 and 90-day deliverables all deserve a push. So does a contract with no exit; 10Louder says engagements should carry a 30 or 60-day notice period.
Then put four questions to every quote:
None of the eight pages we read says who approves each piece of work before it goes out. At Growigami the answers are AI agents, the process price, someone on your team and three months, then 30 days' notice. How to hire a fractional CMO covers the rest of the interview.
Pay for a retainer when you already have a marketing team that does the work well and only needs direction. A Growigami process would duplicate their output. Pay for a full-time CMO when marketing needs a leader in the room every day. Our comparison of a fractional CMO and a full-time CMO covers when that point arrives.
Price alone is a poor filter too. Fractionus warns that a $6,000-a-month CMO without sector or stage experience can cost more than a $16,000-a-month one who has done the job.
The head page on fractional CMO services covers the role. For SaaS companies and startups, see fractional CMO for SaaS and fractional CMO for startups.

Questions
GrowTal and Activated Scale both put a fractional CMO retainer at $5,000 to $15,000 a month. Fractionus puts US retainers at $8,000 to $22,000, and Go Fractional puts its own CMOs at $4,000 to $20,000, with an average of $12,000. At Growigami each process starts at $1,999 a month, and a review with your fractional CMO adds $1,499 or $2,999.
Plan on more than the retainer. 10Louder says the all-in monthly cost is usually 1.5x to 3x the retainer once execution and tools are added. In its example, a $10,000 CMO sits inside $20,000 to $30,000 of monthly marketing cost. At Growigami one process with a monthly review is $3,498 a month. That price includes the weekly work. Ad spend is paid at cost.
Between $150 and $500 an hour across the pages we read. 10Louder gives $200 to $350 for senior fractional CMOs, Fractionus $200 to $450, GrowTal $175 to $350 and Go Fractional $150 to $500. Day rates run $1,200 to $3,500 at Go Fractional and Fractionus. Growigami does not bill by the hour: each process has a monthly price.
A fractional CMO is paid a fee by each client. Go Fractional puts its CMOs' retainers at $48,000 to $240,000 a year per client, with an average of $144,000. On its hourly figures, a CMO at $300 an hour working 20 hours a week bills about $26,000 a month.
Yes, by most of the published figures. Fractionus puts a full-time US CMO at $270,000 to $320,000 or more a year with benefits and payroll taxes, on an average base of $225,908 from Built In. 10Louder puts the total at $336,000 to $528,000 at a $20M ARR company, against $120,000 to $144,000 for a fractional retainer.
Leadership, by 10Louder's list. That means weekly leadership meetings, management of your marketing team and agencies, board-style reporting and quarterly planning. It also covers ICP and positioning work and hiring guidance. Execution work, tools and agency fees almost always cost extra. At Growigami the process price covers the weekly work, and the review with your fractional CMO is its own optional line.
The build cost sits in the first month. A process costs $500 more in its first month while we build it, and your first build is on us this month. After that a process costs its monthly price, from $1,999. There is no other setup fee. One-time projects are priced on their own: the website from $7,499, positioning at $4,999 and the ICP and go-to-market plan at $4,999.
A fractional CMO sets marketing strategy and answers for pipeline on a part-time contract. That covers positioning, the ideal customer profile, which channels get budget and how the team or agencies spend their week. At Growigami your fractional CMO also builds your first process, and AI agents do its weekly work. Our page on fractional CMO services covers the role in full.
