Fractional CRO

A fractional CRO to build your sales process

Joliet freezer, first audit

Hi Dale,

Congrats on opening the Joliet freezer last week. Eight receiving doors at minus 10°F is a lot of door time to log by hand.

In a new building, the first audit tends to turn on two records: how long each door stood open, and the corrective action after each excursion. Dockmere keeps both on the pallet record, so the auditor gets one report.

Worth 20 minutes before your first audit to see how a second building gets set up?

Marcus

A fractional CRO is a chief revenue officer on a part-time contract who leads sales, marketing and customer success against one revenue number. Go Fractional puts its fractional CROs at $10,000 to $20,000 a month. At Growigami, your fractional CRO builds your first process, and AI agents do its weekly work from $1,999 a month.

What is a fractional CRO?

A fractional chief revenue officer does the CRO’s job for part of the week. Vendux, which runs fractional-cro.com, describes one to three days a week over six to eighteen months. Mahdlo puts most engagements at six to twelve months and twenty to seventy hours a month.

The job is to put sales, marketing and customer success on one plan. Mahdlo’s definition aligns the three “around one number”. Chameleon Collective says its fractional CROs own pipeline, the forecast and go-to-market alignment.

Chameleon says its CROs work “with the leaders you already have”. None of the six firm pages we read says who approves the outreach before it goes out. Some firms go further on the work: Mahdlo’s comparison table says its fractional executive runs execution, and Fractional CRO Collective says “We run the plays with you.”

When should you hire a fractional CRO?

When revenue needs a senior owner and a full-time CRO is too early. Mahdlo lists four signals:

  • Revenue has flattened, and nobody can say why. Someone has to find whether the bottleneck is pricing, process or pipeline.
  • There is no sales leader. The last one left, or there has never been one.
  • Sales and marketing work from different plans. Marketing sends leads that sales cannot close.
  • A raise, a new market or an acquisition is coming. Each needs a revenue story someone can defend.
Three people working at desks in a bright office

Hire full-time when the sales team is large enough to need a leader every day. Hire a fractional CMO when the gap is earlier in the funnel: who the buyer is, what you say and which channels fill the pipeline.

What does a fractional CRO cost?

We read six firm pages that rank for “fractional cro” in Google’s US top 10 (Ahrefs snapshot, 14 October 2026) on 5 November 2026. One publishes a figure.

Go Fractional also says full-time CROs are “paid up to $410,000 per year, including benefits.”

At Growigami, each process starts at $1,999 a month and costs $500 more in its first month while we build it, and your first build is on us this month. An optional standing review with your fractional CRO is $1,499 a month for monthly sessions or $2,999 for weekly ones. One process with a monthly review is $3,498 a month. Our price list shows the rest, and the fractional CMO cost guide lays out the same ranges for CMOs.

Your fractional CRO builds the process, then agents run it

Your fractional CRO has led sales and marketing teams as a CRO. They start by building one process with your sellers and proving it works. Managing your sellers, hiring and the quota stay with your team.

  1. Week one. You give us read access to your CRM. Within a week we show you the first process we would build and what it would produce.
  2. About three weeks in. Your fractional CRO builds that process with your team. It is usually running in about three weeks.
  3. Every week after that. AI agents do the research and the drafts for each process you run.
  4. At each review. If you add a review, your fractional CRO walks through the whole system with you and tunes it on the numbers. Reviews run monthly or weekly.

Which sales processes the agents run

Each of these is a process at $1,999 a month:

  • Outbound (Pipeline): 500 target accounts researched a month, with every message opening on a reason to talk now, such as a new head of sales or a funding round. Your seller reviews, then sends.
  • Inbound lead follow-up: up to 300 inbound leads a month, each researched, scored and sent to the right seller with a reply drafted. A lead left untouched goes back to your team before it goes cold.
  • Deal follow-up: up to 60 sales calls a month. Each seller gets a one-page brief the morning of the call, then a drafted recap and CRM notes after it. Deals that went quiet get a new reason to talk.
  • Pipeline and forecast: pipeline by source every Monday, with what each channel cost. Each week last week’s forecast is checked against what closed, and a board report is written each month.

Marketing processes sit alongside these: Search, Social and Paid and creative, each from $1,999 a month. Ad spend is paid at cost.

Without a review, your team steers the processes and we keep each one running. The review is a separate, optional line.

Fractional CRO vs fractional VP of sales

A fractional VP of sales runs the sales team and its pipeline. A fractional CRO owns the revenue number across sales, marketing and retention. Mahdlo puts it this way: a fractional CRO’s scope “spans the full revenue engine”, and a fractional VP of sales covers pipeline.

Pick the VP of sales when marketing already produces pipeline and the sales team needs a manager. Pick the CRO when the problem crosses the line between the two teams. On the marketing side, a fractional VP of marketing manages execution of a strategy that exists, and a fractional growth officer sets direction across marketing, sales and product.

Reworld and NaviNurses put sales and marketing on one plan

Reworld is a $3 billion waste-to-energy operator with four buyer segments. Its CRM was messy, there was no lead scoring, and the sales team spent most of its time on leads nobody had qualified. Ideal-customer profiles for each segment came first, then a CRM cleanup and campaigns for each segment. Marketing and sales came to work from one pipeline, which reached $250M+, and Reworld logged 600+ MQLs in four months (Reworld story).

“Our data has never looked cleaner! It’s so easy now, I wish we had done this a long time ago.” Mike Williams, VP Commercial Operations, Reworld

NaviNurses lets families hire a registered nurse for care at home. It took in everyone who called, and its new sales team needed a defined buyer. Strategy sessions defined the ideal client, then webinars, content and outbound ran as one plan. The sales team reached full quota in 60 days (NaviNurses story).

When a different hire fits better

In these cases another option is the better buy:

  • Your sales team needs a manager in the room every day. Hire a full-time VP of sales or CRO.
  • You want a leader who coaches and runs your sellers each week. Hire a traditional fractional CRO. Chameleon Collective lists coaching, structure and accountability for the sales team. Growigami’s fractional CRO builds and reviews processes and does not manage your sellers, hire or carry a quota.
  • The problem is positioning or the buyer. Start with a fractional CMO for SaaS or our fractional CMO for startups.
  • You have a revenue leader and need a coach. Mahdlo sells executive coaching for the leader already in the seat.

Talk to sales. Give us read access to your CRM, and within a week we show you the first process we would build and what it would produce.

Questions

Common questions about a fractional CRO

How much does a fractional CRO cost?

Go Fractional puts its fractional CROs at $10,000 to $20,000 a month, or $120,000 to $240,000 a year, and says full-time CROs are paid up to $410,000 a year with benefits. The other five firms we read publish no figure. At Growigami each process starts at $1,999 a month, and an optional review with your fractional CRO is $1,499 monthly or $2,999 weekly.

What is the difference between a fractional CRO and a fractional VP of sales?

Scope. A fractional VP of sales runs the sales team and its pipeline. A fractional CRO answers for the whole revenue number across sales, marketing and retention. Mahdlo draws the same line: a fractional CRO's scope "spans the full revenue engine" and a VP of sales covers pipeline. Hire the VP when marketing already works and the sales team needs a manager.

Should we hire a fractional CRO or a fractional CMO?

Hire a fractional CRO when the gap sits between marketing and sales, in the forecast or in a sales team with no leader. Hire a fractional CMO when the gap is positioning, the buyer and the channels that fill the pipeline. At Growigami one optional review covers every process you run, sales or marketing, and our fractional CMO services page covers the marketing side.

Does a fractional CRO manage the sales team day to day?

For part of the week, at the firms we read. Vendux and Chameleon describe one to three days a week, and Mahdlo's fractional model runs 40 to 70 hours a month. Growigami's fractional CRO does not manage your sellers, hire or carry a quota. They build each process and, in an optional review, go through the whole system with you. If you need a manager with your team every week, a traditional fractional CRO is the better buy.

What is the difference between a fractional and an interim CRO?

An interim CRO fills the seat for a set period, often while you search for a permanent hire. A fractional CRO works part-time and can stay for the long term. Go Fractional draws it this way, and Mahdlo sells interim leadership at 60 to 100 hours a month against 40 to 70 for its fractional model.

How long does a fractional CRO engagement last?

Mahdlo calls six to twelve months typical, and Vendux describes six to eighteen months. Growigami's minimum is three months. After that you can leave with 30 days' notice, and each process keeps running as long as you keep it.

What are fractional CRO agencies?

Firms that place or employ part-time revenue leaders, such as Chief Outsiders, Mahdlo, Vendux and Chameleon Collective. Three of those four sell the leader's time on a monthly retainer. Growigami sells processes that AI agents run, each built by your fractional CRO, plus an optional review, with every price on our website.

What does a fractional CRO measure?

Pipeline, the forecast and retention. Chameleon Collective ties its CROs' work to pipeline coverage, forecast accuracy and net revenue retention. At Growigami the pipeline and forecast process shows pipeline by source each Monday, checks last week's forecast against what closed and writes a board report each month.

Start with a fractional CRO.

Give us read access to your CRM. Within a week we show you the first process your fractional CRO would build and what it would produce.
