The line: one record per pallet, from the receiving dock to the outbound trailer.

Dockmere is cold chain compliance software for food warehouses. It reads the sensors a warehouse already has and keeps each corrective action on the same record as the reading, so an audit pulls one report.

  • Who it is for: directors of operations and QA leads at cold storage warehouses and food distributors with 2 to 20 buildings. ICP: 31 deals
  • What it is: software that logs every reading from the dock and the rooms, with each excursion and its fix on the pallet’s record. 14 of 22 calls
  • What it replaces: the clipboard by the dock door and the binder a QA lead builds the week before an audit. 11 calls
  • Why we win: setup is seamless because Dockmere reads the probes already installed. Why we win: setup takes a day per building because Dockmere reads the probes already installed, where sensor vendors start with new hardware. 9 calls, 3 sites

What do Virginia marketing agencies charge?

One firm on the first page answers on its own site. Market Veep’s pricing page lists monthly budgets by program, from $1,950 to $5,350 for Bucket of Hours to $6,850 to $12,850 and more for RAMP. Its pricing FAQ gives a one-year contract term, and its Virginia page promises “a personalized proposal, price, and a 90-day plan before you commit to anything”.

Blossom Marketing offers a free quote; the only package prices on its site sit in blog posts from 2018 and 2020. Bellrae asks you to schedule a conversation, and Davis Ad Agency’s site has a contact form and no price. The Martin Agency’s homepage shows campaigns, and Improvado’s list of Virginia agencies, updated 18 October 2026, profiles firms without fees. Virginia Creative Group’s contact form asks for your budget and names no fee of its own. Clutch’s Virginia directory refused our reader, so we quote no directory figures.

Here is how those figures sit beside a hire and a posted rate.

Which Virginia industries outnumber the US?

For 2023, County Business Patterns lists 210,842 Virginia employer establishments (locations with paid employees) and 3,581,650 employees in the week of March 12. Per 100,000 residents that is 2,419 establishments, about 3 percent fewer than the US rate of 2,497. Virginia’s establishments lean to the middle, with 26.4 percent at 10 to 99 employees; the US share is 24.6 percent. Average pay was $70,069, above the US figure of $68,342.

The first two rows lead because nothing else we track comes close on concentration. Manufacturing follows as the largest employer outside them. Then come software publishers, the trades and practices that run above 1.10 times the US share, and the two rows that count marketing firms. Professional, scientific and technical services includes the computer systems design, advertising and marketing consulting rows.

Share of jobs vs US divides the sector’s share of Virginia employees by its share of US employees, so 1.00x matches the nation.

The federal and IT economy

Computer systems design is the Census industry that includes IT consultancies and managed service providers. With 9,439 establishments, Virginia has the fourth-highest count of the 50 states and DC: 6.5 percent of the national total, against its 2.5 percent of all US establishments. The managed IT providers in that group are the readers of our MSP marketing page.

The Pentagon’s Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation ranks Virginia first among the states for defense spending in fiscal 2024, at $76.2 billion, and second behind Hawaii as a share of state GDP, at 10.0 percent. Contracts were $53.7 billion of that, the most of any state. Fairfax County alone drew $22.0 billion in contract spending, the top location on the report’s national list. Its economic development authority counted 11 Fairfax-headquartered companies on the 2025 Fortune 500, which it says is 42 percent of the Fortune 500 companies based in Virginia.

Trades, practices and software

Landscaping runs at 1.26 times the US share of jobs across 3,096 establishments, the buyer our landscaping marketing page covers. Virginia’s 426 pest control establishments rank ninth among the states and DC (pest control marketing). The 3,771 residential remodelers run at 1.20 times the US share (general contractor marketing), as do the state’s 992 veterinary establishments (veterinary marketing).

The 494 software publishers paid an average of $193,953, the highest in the table and $7,473 under the US average for the industry (SaaS marketing). Manufacturing employs 246,819 people at 5,019 establishments, 0.78 times the US share (manufacturing marketing).

Hampton Roads adds a trade economy. In March 2026 the Port of Virginia announced a finished 55-foot channel, which it says makes Virginia home to the deepest port on the U.S. East Coast. It cites a William and Mary study crediting the port with more than 565,000 jobs and $63 billion in Virginia GDP a year.

How Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads and Richmond differ

The Census metro file has 11 metro areas that take in Virginia counties or cities. Three of the eight largest cross a state line. The Washington metro takes in the District of Columbia and parts of Maryland and West Virginia. Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk reaches into North Carolina, and Kingsport-Bristol spans Tennessee and Virginia.

Metro areaEmployer establishmentsEmployeesAverage annual pay
Washington-Arlington-Alexandria (DC-VA-MD-WV)159,0022,863,486$84,848
Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk (VA-NC)39,669642,536$55,931

Kingsport-Bristol (TN-VA)6,020101,022$54,483
Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford3,58456,178$51,406

Each metro row comes from the Census metro area file for 2023 and counts the whole area, across state lines where it crosses them. Average pay is payroll divided by employees, our arithmetic.

The Washington metro has about four times the establishments of Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk and the highest average pay of the eight, $84,848. Richmond is the largest metro that sits wholly inside Virginia, and its $67,600 average is $11,669 above Hampton Roads. Charlottesville’s establishments are the smallest of the eight, at 14.2 employees each. Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford pays the least, $51,406.

How many ad agencies and marketing consultants does Virginia have?

The Census counted 259 advertising agency establishments in Virginia, with 2,799 employees, and 1,075 marketing consulting establishments with 5,983. Set against the 2.5 percent of all US employer establishments that sit in Virginia, the state has 1.7 percent of the nation’s advertising agencies and 2.1 percent of its marketing consultancies. Measured by jobs, the two run at 0.55 and 0.74 times the US share.

Pay splits the two. Virginia’s advertising agencies paid an average of $113,878 against $106,841 nationally. Marketing consulting paid $78,226 against $83,009.

Both counts leave out people who work alone, since the Census file covers employer establishments only. SBA Office of Advocacy figures for 2025 list 109,225 Virginia firms with no employees in professional, scientific and technical services, the sector where solo marketers are filed (2022 data).

What Growigami runs for Virginia contractors and suppliers

A CRO who has run marketing and sales teams spends the first weeks with your staff, setting up one process and testing it against what your CRM shows. From then on, AI agents handle the research and first drafts each week. Your people stay on the sales calls, edit and send outreach from their own mailboxes, and take the replies.

  • Search (Search): 200 pages monthly, 500 on the bigger plan, each written to rank on Google and to be quoted by ChatGPT and Perplexity.
  • Outbound (Pipeline): 500 accounts from your list researched every month. Each gets a reason it would talk now, and every contact there gets a drafted note.
  • Paid ads (Paid and creative): campaigns on any two of Google, LinkedIn, Meta or YouTube, for media budgets to $25,000 a month, plus as many as two new landing pages monthly. Trades and other home-service firms also get Local Services Ads and Business Profile upkeep.
  • Inbound lead follow-up: as many as 300 new leads a month looked up, sent to the right person and paired with a drafted first reply, day or night.

A standing CRO review is optional and billed on top: $1,499 a month for a monthly session, $2,999 for a weekly one. Skip it and your own team sets priorities while the processes keep running.

When a Virginia agency down the road is the better pick

  • The work happens in person. Shoots at your job sites and booths at Virginia shows go better with a team that can drive over. Growigami sends a marketer to a booth only as an add-on, $2,499 an event plus travel.
  • You run a dental or orthodontic practice and want a specialist. Virginia Creative Group’s homepage is built around medical, dental and orthodontic practice marketing.
  • You sell to consumers. The Martin Agency’s homepage leads with consumer campaigns, from Subway to Hershey’s. Growigami’s processes are set up for companies selling to other businesses, and for professional and home-service firms.
  • You want one leader on staff. Virginia’s median marketing manager earns $187,820 a year. Hiring a fractional CMO buys part of that role’s time.

Growigami suits a Virginia company that would rather see a price before the first call, and wants search, ads, outreach or lead replies handled each week.

Talk to sales. Give us read access to your CRM, and within a week we show you the first process we would build and what it would produce.

Questions

What Virginia firms ask before hiring digital marketing

What should a Virginia firm budget for digital marketing?

Plan on a quote from most of page one. Market Veep is the exception: its pricing page lists programs from $1,950 a month, and its pricing FAQ gives a one-year contract term (read 5 November 2026). Growigami lists its rate, $1,999 a month for each process, and 30 days' notice ends it once three months are up. Media spend passes through at cost.

Is a marketing agency worth it for a Virginia firm?

It is worth it when the fee buys more channels than the hire it replaces. In Virginia that hire costs a median $76,980 a year at the specialist level and $187,820 at the manager level (BLS, May 2025). One Growigami process runs $1,999 a month; adding the monthly CRO review brings it to $3,498. If you need one person in the building every day, make the hire.

Should a Virginia firm hire a local agency?

Hire local for work that needs a person on site. Search pages, ads, outreach and lead replies run the same from any city. Bellrae, which lists Glen Allen and Arlington addresses, sells itself as "Your Remote Marketing Department". Booths at shows, shoots at your job sites and local press favor a team nearby. Growigami does all of its work remotely.

Can a federal contractor in Virginia use outbound?

Yes, for reaching primes, teaming partners and commercial buyers by name. Each month the Outbound process researches 500 accounts on your list and drafts a note to every contact there. Your seller edits and sends from their own mailbox, and interested replies land with them within the day. If your contracts limit what you can say about a customer, set that rule with your CRO at the start.

Does Growigami have staff in Virginia?

None. The whole team is remote, and nobody works from Virginia. Your CRO meets your people over video. Firms on the monthly CRO review can also message their CRO in Slack between reviews. If you want an agency you can visit, Davis says it is based in Virginia Beach.

Who checks the work before it is published?

You do. You approve each page and every ad before it goes out, and your seller reviews each outreach message, then sends it from their own mailbox. While the first process is being set up, you and your CRO list who on your side signs off on which kind of work.

When does a search page start to bring in visits?

Search pages take months to rank, and Growigami gives no date for it. The part with a date is the start: the first process usually runs about three weeks after you give us CRM access. Each month we also ask ChatGPT and Perplexity your buyers' questions and show which answers name your firm.

Put one Virginia process to work.
